RìoghnachAmerican Black Walnut, White Ash & Purpleheart Cutting Board
The Gaelic Collection · CTD-G-0001Pronounced REE-nyakh · meaning “royal or queenly”
There is only one of these, and there will never be another.
Each board is handmade in Christchurch from carefully chosen hardwood. Deep, chocolate-toned American black walnut frames bands of pale, straight-grained American white ash, cut through with vivid stripes of purpleheart. No two pieces of timber have the same grain, and no two of our boards share a layout, so the board you're looking at is the board you'll receive.
Every board also gets its own Scottish Gaelic name, inlaid into its side. This one is Rìoghnach (pronounced REE-nyakh), meaning "royal" or "queenly." The name is never repeated, so it's a mark of a one-off piece made to be used and handed down.
Board No. 1 of The Gaelic Collection. The first of The Gaelic Collection, Rìoghnach sets the standard for all those that follow — fitting for a name whose meaning is ‘queenly’. As the collection’s first board, she leads by example, establishing the style and craftsmanship that will shape her kingdom from the very beginning.
The bottom edges are finished with a 45° chamfer, so your fingers slip easily underneath and the board lifts cleanly off the bench.
- Board No.: CTD-G-0001
- Size: 470 × 300 × 30 mm
- Timbers: American black walnut, American white ash, purpleheart
- Edges: 45° chamfer on the bottom edges for easy lifting

- Care: Hand wash and dry upright. Re-oil now and then. Never soak it or put it in the dishwasher.
Purpleheart naturally deepens to a richer purple-brown with exposure to light, so your board will develop its own character over time.
A board for everyday cooking, a serving platter for the table, and a gift that carries its own story.
Kitchen scenes are illustrative styling. The photos on white show Rìoghnach exactly as you'll receive her.
